Solar Cooker - DIY kit for Students

Updated: May 1

INTRODUCTION:

Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the sun harnessed using a range of ever-evolving technologies suc has solar heating, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal energy, solar architecture and artificial photosynthesis. It is an important source of renewable energy and its technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or active solar depending on the way they capture and distribute solar energy or convert it in to solar power.

Solar cooking is done by means of the suns UV rays.

A solar cooker lets the UV light rays in and the n converts them to longer infrared light rays that cannot escape. Infrared radiation has the right energy to make the water, fat and protein molecules in food vibrate vigorously and heat up.

It is not the sun's heat that cooks the food, nor is it the outside ambient temperature, though this can some what affect the rate or time required to cook, but rather it is the suns rays that are converted to heat energy that cook the food; and this heat energy is then retained by the pot and the food by the means of a covering or lid.

This occurs in much the same way that a greenhouse retain she at or a car with its windows rolled up. An effective solar cooker will use the energy of the sun to heat a cooking vessel and efficiently retain the energy (heat) for maximum cooking effectiveness.

They're the most fun a kid can have their Solar Cooker. We've got the plans and list of parts you need to build one for your family this Sunday and have the kids have fun to cook around before sun down.

For Your Information:

Cooking Vessel: Cooking Vessel is designed to cook the food.

Thermal Absorber :A solar thermal collector collects heat by absorbing sunlight. A collector is a device for capturing solar radiation. In this kit piece of black paper is a Thermal Absorber.

Sun Rays Retention is the final principle in solar cooking]. If a solar cooker is not well insulated and if it does not have a cover, or lid, then all of the concentrated heat(energy) and all of the absorbed heat would quickly dissipate into the air and be lost to the surrounding environment. A solar cooker must have the means to "trap" or hold the concentrated heat allowing it to accumulate and to "build up" to sufficiently high enough levels to be able to effectively cook. In this kit Plain Glass is a required for retaining Sun rays.
